Destination overview
With 14.5km of beautifully shaped airflow trails constructed by World Trail, Finch Hatton is a brand-new mountain bike destination in Queensland — but this is only a taste of the sweetness still to come.
Currently, there are 16 trails to choose from, chock full of quark knucks, massive berms and some proper jumps. Even though this is just the start of what will eventually become one of the largest riding destinations in Queensland, don’t be fooled into thinking the riding here is anything short of world-class.
Another 82km of singletrack is still on the agenda, including a 36km adventure trail from Eungella up the range.
The trailhead has a massive pump track and all the amenities you could ask for, including an uplift service thanks to Off Camber Mountain Biking.
The Cane Cutter’s Classic
Finch Hatton itself your classic rural town in Queensland. There is a pub packed full of friendly locals, a general store in town and a quirky cafe slinging top-notch breaky. With that, you’ll probably want to load up on essentials in Mackay before you come up. However, we were genuinely impressed at the food around town and options for folks who have dietary restrictions.
Off the bike, the Finch Hatton Gorge is a lovely walk that ends in one of the best swimming holes this side of Sydney, and up the range, you can go platypus spotting at Broken River.
Getting to Finch Hatton
Mackay is the closest airport to Finch Hatton, and from the rental car desk to the pump track, it will take you just under an hour on the road. We stayed at Criterion Hotel Pub, but some Airbnbs have already popped up in town. While the town is likely to develop alongside the trail network, there is already a bike shop if you need spares.

I’m one of the lucky ones who calls Finch Hatton my local. This place is unreal with 14km or so of the most epic airflow trails it’s definitely one to add to the list. Countless jumps and features that will have you coming back from more. The climbing trail is nice and easy. It won’t leave you completely gassed and allows for multiple laps. Don’t like climbing then take advantage of the shuttles, load your bike and let the shuttle teams do the work ! All trails have features for all abilities and will have you frothing for more sugary goodness!!
