Kempsey even has a great little jump line to session a few trains with mates.

In 2023 and 2024 The club is super supportive, and have done a great job to developed the trail network. This year’s event used the new trail head and it was very impressive!
I haven’t ridden the flow trails yet, didn’t have time or leg strength left after a 5hr race in the mud.
But I’m very keen to give it a go.
PS bucket brewery in Kempsey is awesome!

This place is unreal with 14km or so of the most epic airflow trails it’s definitely one to add to the list. Countless jumps and features that will have you coming back from more. The climbing trail is nice and easy. It won’t leave you completely gassed and allows for multiple laps. Don’t like climbing then take advantage of the shuttles, load your bike and let the shuttle teams do the work ! All trails have features for all abilities and will have you frothing for more sugary goodness!!

Rode with a group made up of two 29er hardtails and 1 short travel XC bike. Highly recommended for a long day out. Everything is ridable on a hardtail however would be more enjoyable on a short travel XC bike. Be prepared for a good 3-6 hours of awesome views and trails. Last 10kms is worth the effort.

There are cross country blues anf greens then more technical flow trails and gnarly blues and blacks. .

I also keep returning to Tewantin each year for Noosa Enduro. It‘s a real mix of terrain from technical trails in forests to gravel roads and hike a bike climbs up peaks leading to spectacular views over Lake Cootharaba and out to the sea.

The Noosa trail network that starts in Tewantin connects up little towns where you can stop for a bite to eat, coffee or refreshments. It makes for a great day out.

These trails are second to none for hardtails and shorter travel trail bikes. Awesome trails such as Pugsley, Big Pine, Bender and Line Manager offered me some sensational flow whilst trails like Paper Trail and Rock and Root offered some rougher natural features to contrast the vast amounts of smooth flow. Almost any lap leads to a smile at these trails. I cannot wait to get back.

Lots of options and something for everyone. Most trails could be ridden and enjoyed regardless of skill level with plenty of side hits to keep the more advanced rider entertained. Everything flows really well and the trails are well thought out and designed. Often the descents will have multiple line choices to keep things interesting but all the trails can be ridden pretty confidently blind without encountering anything unexpected. Only a short drive from Launceston and if you’re visiting to ride nearby Derby then it’s well worth spending a day here as well.

It’s a decent pedal but the scenery, terrain changes and well built trail is well worth it. Take plenty of food and water. The first 11km is basically all climbing. Definitely recommend doing the full epic loop back to Melrose but the trail ‘bale out’ back to willowie forest is worth riding the 11km climb just to lap that 6km of descending.
The existing trails in Melrose are fun too. Different vibe to the new trails but still good fun if you don’t plan to ride the full epic.
‘Bale out’ is a must ride and best trail here in my opinion. Don’t think it’s just a way home for those that are having second thoughts while starting out on the full epic.

It has trails for all skill levels and a skills jump park to match.

Most people, including me, will park at the bottom carpark and ride to the top via the fire road and then turn off onto Dream Weaver + Point of Knoll Return. If I want a scenic climb, I’ll ride Middle Earth and pretend I’m Frodo on his journey to Mount Doom.

For descents, Green Smoothie and The Ducks Guts is great to warm up on. My personal favourite though is Fox Fast. Fox Fast has a bit of everything, and nothing too challenging either. I used to ride Allen’s Orange Whip + Blue Groove a lot, but because it’s such a crowd favourite, it’s fallen into a state where it requires some TLC.

Comment on Majura Pines by Simon https://flowmountainbike.com/destination/majura-pines-mountain-bike-trails/#comment-3788 Thu, 13 Jun 2024 23:33:28 +0000 https://flowmountainbike.com/?post_type=destination&p=174860#comment-3788 Majura is small but offers a wide range of experiences. With steep tech or flow trails on the southern and northern ends, connected by more undulating hand cut single track in-between, and a great beginner area next to some prime dirt jumps – there’s something for everyone of all abilities. There are loops you can follow, but you can easily mix up trails and choose your own adventure.

For the more advanced riders looking to thread the needle, the southern end is a great place to start with Barry & Larry, Dirty Distancing and Rock Lobster. Intermediate riders will love the flow Planet Claire on the southern end and Pinot Grinio+Bombora on the northern end. Less experiences riders can tackle the same blue flow descents at a slower pace or hone their skills on classic trails like Telemark and Innabaanya.

For those looking for some old school steep tight tech XC, you can’t go past Auto Alley, Car Body, Bucket Run. Or if you’re looking to save the legs, Pitt Street and Dew Drop Inn feature Majura’s famous gully half pipes.

The Flash, Crazy Crab Walk, pump track and jumps on the eastern side of Majura Parkway are a great place for beginners and younger kids as there’s minimal climbing but plenty of flow to be found. There’s also some fun skinnies too. It’s also where you’ll find the toilets, water, picnic table, repair stand and main carpark.

Our first day of riding we spent on the Playground testing all the easier flow trails, with a super nice climbing track back to the top. Thunderbirds are go being the favorite trail.
Day 2 we booked in for half day shuttles and tested all of the Gravity Trails! And all of them over again. There’s something for everyone here, flow, jumps, tech, climbs.
All nestled into a beautiful part of the South Coast.

The trails are scenic, in great knick and a lot of fun but most do require a bit of pedal power through the middle sections.

My top picks are Jump Stumper, Prana and Old Tom for their jump lines, some more challenging than others.

Check out some videos on my channel, just search Sportilium (I Nearly Died on Old Tom \\ First Ride Gravity Eden MTB Trails

Formerly fun, grippy trails are now coated in slippery gravel making them unpredictable and skatey. Approach with caution!

I’ve seen positive updates to trails throughout the Victorian High Country, like the Indigo Epic, Cascades Trail and the recent updates to Mount Buller. All of these investments do a much better job of catering to all skill levels and have predictable consistent surfacing materials used.

It isn’t all bad, Forrest has some amazing scenery and waterfalls nearby that are well worth a look. I’d also strongly recommend swinging by the brewery to try the Silvertop Lager.

My favourite trails are on the Yaugher side of town and are from the original build many years ago, I’m hoping these don’t receive the same gravel treatment as the new trails. I remain hopeful that we’ll see remediation works to the recent upgrades. Fingers and toes crossed that Forrest sees the addition of some proper advanced trails in the future too.

It’s great to see this destination rejuvinated as it had become a bit long in the tooth. It’s still a beginner/intermediate destination so it would be great to see more challenging advanced trails/features in the future. The brewery is alone is worth the visit to the town!

We explored all of the different areas and found fun trails in all areas. The mix of hand built and machine built trails are awesome. I Love Steve & Hump Back in the Gravity zone were full of flow! We didn’t use shuttles and the climb of No Soup For You is well made and an enjoyable climb. We headed to the Wilderness Area for some classic hand built trails and found the fun trail of Willy Wossell which felt like it just kept on going. Master of my Domain is another well built climb to the playground and Thunderbirds are go is a machine built trail with jumps and berms, flowing all the way back to the trail head. Definitely worth the trip to Narooma & will definitely be back!

Every corner is perfectly placed and there are jumps for all abilities. A really great place to ride for families with smooth trails, gentle climbs that aren’t too long and you can self shuttle the Playground area (Thunderbirds are Go and Shredtopia). Commercial shuttles available for the 8 descents at the Gravity Zone with Southbound Escapes.

There are some tech trails as well, although only Devils Ballzac has substantial rock features (but it has a lot!)

Consider staying in Dalmeny – it’s closer to the trail head (possible to ride out to the Wilderness Zone) and a is a cute little town with a great beach.

But that’s pretty much all the bad news. The trails are awesome fun with view to die for and long swoopy descents. The pump track and jump line at the trail head are superb and Eden is a beautiful little town.

Top hint – depending where you are staying it is possible to ride out from town to join the network in a couple of places to avoid having to use your car all weekend.

Coming from Sydney and riding mostly RNP with only 10k of official trails in Narooma you are spoilt for choice with beginners, gravity and cross country trails abound. Not sure we got through all of them there are so many but we will be back.
Trail head is impressive too!

Leave from the hub and work your way up to the top of the tier on Going up (its spelt a bit different than that using Aussy slang) It feels like you not even climbing and then pop out on the top of the tier so its good fun. Take the Dreaming Ponds track and have a ball, watch out though, bit skatey in a few sections. Have a dip in the ponds and waterfall if keen and then drop down a bit further although be prepared to suffer a bit on the climb back up to the hub. What a buzz.

The current state of the trail network is a reflection of this experience with the challenges and joys of modern mountain biking met for all levels or rider. A good mix of natural and artificial features shape trails in a harmonious mixture, allowing for a trail experience that reflects the topography rather than wedging trails in an unnatural manor.
The location is a well maintained, beautiful pine forrest just far enough away from infrastructure that besides the air traffic overhead you can get the feeling of the escape from everyday.

From the beginner area, pump track and dirt jumps (Majurassic Park) over at Majura Rd, to the machine built flow descents like Barry, Planet Claire, Rock Lobster and Pinot Grinio. If XC tech is still your thing then checkout Auto Alley. If you like steep, rocky trails then you won’t be disappointed. The south end of the forest has a number of great descents like Touching Cloth and Short Memory.

A top hint is to park at the nearby Hackett shops – home of Monkey Wrench Cycles, Hackett IGA and several small cafes/restaurants. Cut through to Mackenzie Street and enter Mount Majura Nature Reserve and follow the signs up Blue Metal Road, forking left near the top to the Majura Pines notice boards.

Don’t forget to give the volunteers of Majura Pines Trail Alliance some love – either a donation or buy some merch – as they build and maintain all of these trails.

Firefly flow trail is perfect for just about everyone but be mindful to scrub some of the bigger jumps if you aren’t a fan of air time.

Good variety of surfaces, topography and vegetation.

If the golf club is open it is perfect for post ride refreshments.

Tracks can feel a little slow on an all mountain/enduro bike so you are better off going to the more gravity oriented riding spots in the area like Ohrimbah or Awaba if you are riding a longer travel bike.

These trails have the best combo of XC and Enduro with a flare of awesome downhill. Easy to navigate with very well signed trails and multiple trail head signs, makes for a low stress adventure for first timers.

Awesome easy pedal up a sealed road, then a great variety of tracks available in both sides.

A little bit of everything in here for everyone. Plus, the sandy soil tends to hold up well after rain.

Add in an active trail care group and it’s a great day out. Well worth the drive from Brisbane

There is good progression for beginners all the way to advanced. If you get bored you can always watch people jump down the pro line.

All in the top end of tracks.
If you have not ridden this, you should.
Now with Eden, Tathra, Narooma, and all the Mogo trails being built, this area will be alive with mountain bikes.

Great single track can be as easy or hard as you like, the skills Park is a great upgrade.

Lots for beginner and skilled. Loved zipping around on a Scott Spark.

This is an absolute must for anyone planning a MTB trip to the Gold Coast and guess what – SHUTTLES!

Why? It has something for everyone! Want to run some fun, flowy blue jump lines – Sidewinder into the newly constructed Ranch Toastie. Want to get you chunk on, tackle DH2, DH3, Ballzack or the infamous Rodney’s Run. Is getting some serious air time your thing, hit up Funked Out or for the all time adrenaline junkies – tackle BIG LINE.
To top things off, they have an INSANE dirt jump system, that is meticulously curated and cared for by the riders.

Boomers is open Friday through Monday (pending weather) and will generally advise early if the park is to be closed due to weather or any race events.

But there’s a lesser known, and I think even better spot on the upper part near the winery known as the Three Bears. They’re staggered from beginner (baby bear) up to advanced (papa) and they’re really well built jumps that you’ll often have to yourself. Highly recommended to head up towards the winery or check them out on your way up Batcave and the super fun descent Pinot Grinio.

With something for everyone, it’s not a destination wasted. New to riding? Safe and epic greens. Looking for some blues? Some of the funniest flow and jump trails in the state. Got that knack for black? Meelup has you covered. What’s missing? Wine, beers and good food? All a stone throw away. A destination worth shredding on its own

The trails are perfectly formed and provide fun for any level of ability and bike. They are exceptionally well maintained, which is a credit to the local trail crew. The local town offers great options for beverages, food and accommodation after you finish riding with a huge smile on your face from the awesome fun had. I will definitely be back there again soon.

Comment on St Helens by Mike https://flowmountainbike.com/destination/st-helens/#comment-3745 Thu, 18 Apr 2024 03:13:16 +0000 https://flowmountainbike.com/?post_type=destination&p=156467#comment-3745 I have ridden all the trails at St Helens.
The trails are well maintained and ride well in all conditions.
The surface soaks up water and the trail fairies have a done a lot of work on drainage to ensure any surface water drains away quickly.
This makes the trails suitable for riding all year round. Where other parks will leave you covered head to foot in mud after any serious rain, these trails make great riding conditions.
There are options for the whole family from simple kids loops to black diamond down hills.
Take the shuttle to the tier to enjoy Send Helens or Mach 10 or ride the blue stacked loop trails.
The stacked loop trails have had a lot of work done recently and have some great flow sections.

At the trailhead there is a canteen, toilets and shaded seating which gives a great area for families to base themselves.

Theres plenty of fun singletrack and they are currently adding bits of singletrack to avoid some of boring bits.
